The Physical Sciences Laboratory's Aerospace and Autonomous Systems Laboratory is a recognized center of excellence in the AUV world. The center works hand in hand with the 46th Test Group at Holloman AFB and the White Sands Missile Range.

The PSL AASL's UAV Technical Applications and Analysis Center provides Certification, Regulatory Research and validation, Platform/Payload Integration Demonstrations, and Critical Technologies Testing Services. The UAV TAAC provides the HALE -High-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Certification and Regulatory Roadmap ( download PDF). A Southwest Border Demonstration was conducted out of Las Cruces airport in Dec2004. The test was incremental with increasing levels of complexity designed to demonstrate UAV flight safety for Civil and Commercial applications using a 20 ft wingspan Aerostar equipped witha Mode C transponder with altitude mode sensing capability.
